What Florida actually requires
| Requirement | What the board says |
|---|---|

| Journeyman card | Issued by county/local jurisdictions, typically NEC-based exams — check your county's requirements |
| State contractor exam | Two parts (technical/safety + business), computer-based via Pearson VUE; scores valid 3 years at application |
| Contractor experience | Must include at least 40% of work in 3-phase services (one of several routes in the application instructions) |

Then what?
The NEC practice below still applies — Florida's local journeyman exams and the state contractor technical exam are code-based. Your county's exam bulletin names the tested NEC edition. See how to become an electrician in Florida for the full tier ladder, and the other topic tests on the electrician prep page.
Questions people actually ask
Does Florida license journeyman electricians?
Florida does NOT issue a state journeyman electrician license — journeyman cards are county/local. The state licenses electrical CONTRACTORS (certified statewide via a two-part Pearson VUE exam).
Which NEC edition is on the exam?
The exam vendor's candidate bulletin for Florida names the tested edition — states adopt the NEC on their own cycle and sometimes amend it. Start from the board: Florida DBPR — Electrical Contractors' Licensing Board (ECLB).
Are these real exam questions?
No. Every question is original, written from the NEC's public article structure with the citation in the explanation — never from a real exam. See our methodology page.
